Top 5 North Stradbroke Island Attractions

Often, I wonder if I could still get a chance be one with Mother Nature and all her unscathed splendour. This idea seemed to be true only to the person’s creative imagination, but then, perhaps Mother Nature still has some places up her sleeve. If I were to find out where such a place is, I think one would be North Stradbroke Island, in Queensland, Australia.

Locals have affectionately nicknamed North Stradbroke Island as “Straddie”. Before visiting, keep in mind first that the months of June to November is the peak tourist season at Straddie. Having marked these dates on your calendar, I dare you to try out these five places to visit on your trip to North Stradbroke Island.

North Stradbroke has three townships, the largest of which is Dunwich. If you want to catch a bit of Straddie history, then you better head first to Dunwich. Besides, all the amenities such as shops and accommodation can be found here.

However, if you want some larger-than-life adventure, then you should visit Point Lookout. From here, you’ll be able to witness the gigantic wonders of nature, such as dolphins and whales, including the great Blue whale pass by.

Amity Point offers something understated yet worth enjoying too. This is the ideal fishing point on the island, and so, you’re expected to hook a large fresh meal for yourself.

If camping is your passion, then the North Gorge Walk is the place to be. This is just one of the eight campgrounds around North Stradbroke Island, and its location gives you an ideal vantage point for whale watching too.

Lastly, since we’ve skimmed the fringes of the island, we might as well go inland of the island to the Blue Lake National Park. It hosts an impeccable array of flora and fauna that you won’t see anywhere else. Moreover, you may wish to try bathing in its pristine blue waters, something you would see only in picture books.
