In 1896 a storm separated North Stradbroke Island and South Stradbroke Island from the greater Stradbroke Island, forming the Jumpinpin Channel.
North Stradbroke Island is about 38 km long and 11 km wide.
North Stradbroke Island has numerous freshwater lakes including; Ibis Lagoon, Black snake Lagoon, Welsby Lagoon, Lake Kounpee, Brown Lake and Blue Lake in Blue Lake National Park.
North Stradbroke Island is known for its long clean white beaches. Watch for whales passing Point Lookout during whale watching season. The only public hotel on the island is at Point Lookout.
